VLR Last service project in 2024 - Delivering Christmas Baskets:
Sunday December 22 found members of the club organizing, preparing boxes, loading cars and delivering Christmas food boxes to 50 clients of Deep Well.
We received many expressions of gratefulness from the recipients. Among some of the notes: "Thank you so much for the lovely basket"; "gracias", "Thank you very much, Merry Christmas"; "Happy Holidays to all of you" and one person specifically wanted me to pass on their appreciation to "all the Rotarians" for doing this.  Know that our efforts helped to make a brighter holiday for many.

Speaker -
Wayne Boutwell, CEO of Encompass Acute Rehab gave us information about this facility.  We learned that there is a big demand for rehabilitation services.  Encompass is the largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals - there are 160 hospitals in 36 states and Puerto Rico. The local one, 38 beds, located in Bluffton off HWY 170 opened in June 2018.  It is not a nursing home but a hospital with no ER and they do not deliver babies.  They have labs and imaging services and medical staff including" physical medicine and rehab physicians; internal medicine physicians; nephrologists; psychiatry; general surgery/wound care. They are accredited by the Joint commission, disease specific certification for  stroke care, and have built a program around Parkinson's disease certification.  They see a lot of hip fractures and our own Dr. Nick Mihelic has joined to help build a hip fracture program.  The facility is expanding and going to add 12 beds. They do not have memory care but do partner in this area.    80% of patients have Medicare and the basic cost to be there is covered by it.
