Henry Criss was recognized and Club Foundation Chair Greg Wynn presented him with his Paul Harris Fellow +2 pin. Congratulations, Henry and Thank you for supporting our charity, The Rotary Foundation.
MARCH 29 SOCIAL
The "Souper Bowl" was held March 29 at the home of Eric and Jody Schmidt. A wonderful evening of good food, libations, fellowship and competition!
First place winners (venison chili) were President Jacob Hunt and Katie
Coming, in a close second winners were Sonny Huntley and Dean.
Sounds like so much fun - watch for the next opportunity for Rotary Fellowship!
RECENT MEETINGS:
March 18 speaker Steve Wilmot, Tournament Director of the RBC Heritage presented by Boeing provided an upate on this year's tournament.
The Tournament produces an impressive economic impact for the State of South Carolina and is Hilton Head Island's largest event. It is one of only eight events with Signature Status in the PGA. This year there is $20 million in prize money, 700 FEDEXCUP points, a limited field of 72 players. There will be NO cut ! Some improvements for the spectatiors - there will be bleachers on every hole except 11. In 2024 $4 million was given to charity as a result of this signature event. Steve also showed a fantastic video giving the history and beginnings of the tournament. 
Get your plaid on and make sure to sign up to help either at our concession booth or popcorn wagon - this is one way that our club raises funds to do the good that we do.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is offered at over 120 Universities throughout the country It is offered at USCB locally. It provides intellectual, social and cultural enrichment in a climate that fosters friendship and mutual sharing of ideas and experiences. There are classrooms on all three USCB campuses, with 1800 members. Its founder, Bernard Osher was dedicataed to learning something new every year and set up OLLI with 550 million dollars. Our speakers were from the Port Royal Sound Foundation
Jody Hayward, Executive Director gave an overview of the PRSF: it is a 501c3 non-profit and originated in 2011; Their FREE Maritime Center museum opened in November 2014; there are 9 employees and more than 100 volunteers; there are 15 on the Board, they get funding from donors, programs, events and grants.There were 144 school field trips hosted in 2024. Over 240,000 have visited the Maritime Center since 2014.
Chris Kehner, Science Program manager provided fascinating information about the waterways and water shed in the area. Did you know that there are only three fresh water rivers locally? Salinity is what makes our water environment unique. Our county is over 50% water and marsh which is why we all should be aware of its importance and what we need to do to preserve it. In October is one of their fundraising events - - Night on the Sound. Information about their fishing tournament will be coming out soon too. Visit their website to learn more.
