SPEAKER
October 1 Speaker:
Speakers at our meeting were Marie Smalls, Director and Jean Felix, Training & Outreach Coordinator of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Beaufort County.

Ms, Smalls began by declaring all of us ambassadors. We learned about the Board of Elections, how to register to vote, who can register, upcoming elections, early voting, and the absentee process.

Jean Felix gave us the details.
"The mission of the board is to ensure every eligible citizen has the opportunity to register to vote and participate in fair and impartial elections with the assurance that every vote will count." You can register online, by mail, email or fax, or in person at the voter registration office. Who can register?: Must be 18 years of age on or before the date of the election; must be a U.S. Citizen; Must be a S.C. resident; must be a resident of the precinct applying to vote in; register no later than 30 days prior to election. Disqualified if: mentally incompetent by court; serving a prison term as a result of committing a crime; convicted of a felony or offense against election law. General election is November 5- there are items on the ballot that you should look at ahead of time as they are lengthy - one is constitutional and there are two referendums. Early voting takes place October 21 through November 2 from 8:30 to 6:00 pm at four different locations in Beaufort County. Any registered voter in BC can vote at any of the locations (yes, y'all, just ONE)- Beaufort (main Office), Hilton Head Island (USCB), Bluffton(Bluffton Rec. Center gym) and St. Helena Island(library). Jean explained absentee voting by mail and all the checks and balances that are done to make sure our election process is honest and safe. We had many great questions posed to Jean and Marie, giving evidence to the fact that their presentation was very interesting and valuable. You can learn more at beaufortcountysc.gov/vote
