Next week, October 22, the regularly scheduled club meeting is OFF SITE! It will be held at Volunteers in Medicine - 8:00
Speaker on October 8 was Anne Caywood Director of Lowcountry Legal Volunteers

Lowcountry Legal Volunteers provides free legal counsel and clinics for qualifying low-income residents of Beaufort, Hampton and Jasper counties. They were founded almost 25 years ago and were patterned after VIM , feeling they could do the same thing with retired attorneys.

It is all about "access to justice". Last year they closed over 200 cases. Much of their success is that they partner with organizations like Hopeful Horizons, Deep Well, etc. They assist their clients with: family law, divorce, separate maintenance and support, custody matters, parental visitation, securing child support, registration of out of state child support, clinics for uncontested divorce, probate, preparing a simple will, creating a health care power of attorney, eviction defense and landlord tenant matters. A large portion of the cases are family law - a lot of their clients are single women. They have a small full time staff and about 20 volunteers. There is a need for more volunteers, not necessarily attorneys - bi-lingual is an important asset. The organization relies on grants and fundraisers. February 21 2025 will be a celebration cocktail event. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram
