Assistant Governor Dan Ciuffreda ammounced that RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) will be held locally and it would be a good opportunity if you haven't completed this program to attend. It will be held on Saturday June 8 at TLC 8:30 to 3:45. Parts I, II, and III are being offered. If you are interested in a leadership role in Rotary it would be a good idea to attend to start or complete your training.
It was great to have Chris Crosby, one of our scholarship recipients, visit to update us on what he is doing. He just finished his sophmore year. He is going to be an intern for the Lexington Blow Fish which gives him experience in the areas he is studying: entertainment management, marketing and sales.
We will be looking into making more use of grants - Mike Waters and Hal Wilson will be heading up that area

Speaker:
David Voyles from Safe Harbour was our speaker. He began by telling us what the organizaqtion is not - it is NOT a marine harbour. They have added the tag line "neighbors driving neighbors" to make that clear. The purpse of Safe Harbour is to help people stay in their homes as long as it is safely possible. One of the major concerns of the aging population as they try to stay in their homes, is transportation. Safe Harbour, which was incorporated in 2009 provides one or two trips per week to their members. Membership fee is $50 per month and they help 30 to 40 people per week. There is a waiting list. Last year they made 1500 trips. The organization is run by two part time paid employees, with volunteers providing the transportation. The goal is to have 2 volunteers to 1 member, but right now it is 1.3 to 1. They are always looking for volunteers : qualifications are: good driving record; must pass a criminal background check; and be a great listener. They transport Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm. They do not receive any government funding - all is donations and grants. You can learn more by visiting the website: hhisafeharbour.org
HIGH SCHOOL CLEANUP
Saturday May 18 VLR members cleaned up the Hilton Head Island High School Campus. The clean up was organized by Joah Etchells members that turned out were: Sonny Huntley, Eric Schmidt, Eric Smith, John Conningham, and Henry Criss and Teddy Criss.
