RECENT MEETINGS:
March 11
Speaker Michelle Fraser from the 14th Circuit Victims Services Center
The Victims Services center serves Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hapton and Jasper Counties. It brings together a team of professionals to help victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child and elder abuse and other crimes against vulnerable populations. One of the things it aims for is to reduce the number of times a victim must tell their story and the number of places they have to go for help.  In the past, a victim oftern had to tell their sotry seven times, now only once. The have four part time nurses, one full time and they can see the patients at the hospital or at the Center.  They are funded by grants and the rent that the Solicitor's office pays, pays for the mortgage. The victims are 75% adults and 25% children.  Often victims do not want to go through with procecution because the legal route takes so long. Human Trafficing is an issue because the I95 corridor is easy to get in and out. "If you see something, say something"  Community partners are: 14th Circuit Solicitor's office, 14th Circuit SAFE program, hopeful Horizons, Child Abuse Prevention Association, Lowcountry Legal Volunteers, Lowcountry Alliance for Healthy Youth, Bikers Against Child Abuse.
