John Myer announced the "This One's for Dan" Tennis  Tournament which will be held in honor of his son, John Daniel Myer who passed away last year. The tournament will be held on November 8 - 10 at the South Beach Racquet Club and will benefit Crohns and Colitis Foundation. 
 
Speaker:
Past President Tim Ridge introduced our speaker - Maestro John Morris Russell, conductor and Music Director of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra.
 
He received a Master of Music degree in conducting from the University of Southern California, LA and a BA in music from Williams College in Mass. He has also studied at the Guildhail School of Music and Drama in London, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Aspen Music festival in Colorado and the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors in Maine  In addition to working with the Hilton Head Symphony he is also conductor of the Cincinnati Pops as well as other well known and prestigious orchestras.  He told us about the exciting upcoming Symphony Orchestra 2019-20 Season as well as Special Events.  The first event, Symphony Under the Stars, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. A Tribute to Aretha Franklin  held October 1 -2 at Oscar Frazier Park in Bluffton.  Tickets are $25 for lawn seating and $50 from table seating.  Three sections of Aretha's life are covered.  He also told some anecdotes of meeting Aretha and working with her in concert.  Opening night for the HHSO is Sunday October 20, with concerts scheduled through April 27.  The Holiday concerts will be spectacular.  The orchestra is expanding out to Bluffton and becoming a "regional" orchestra.  February 1 is the HHSO Youth Concerto Competition and March 9 - 14 is the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, Celebrating 25 Years.  The 38th Season of the HHSO ends with a Grand Finale:Elijah, on April 27, which will involve a large chorus.  For tickets and information Call the HHSO at 843.842.2055 or visit the website hhso.org
