Speaker:
Our speaker was Mira Scott who is an artist and spoke about the need to have an "arts district" in Hilton Head.  There is a gala planned for March 9 to raise funds to build something that will encourage young people to stay here rather than leave in search of an area that will nurture their artist endeavors.

The Gala has partnered with 4 local chefs and will feature Italian wine.  Mira introduced Logan Ettleman who is a jewelry maker.  He had been traveling to California, where artists share space and create together.  He is involved with bringing the same thing here to Hilton Head.  The idea is to inspire artists to come together and create.  They currently have a space that they are sharing, Gallery and maker space, which is located at 19 Dunnegan's Ally Tuesday to Saturday 10 - 5pm.  That is where the gala is going to be held as well.  Logan was ready to move to California because there was nothing here.  The idea is to make art the new economic driver.  The organization is a non profit under the umbrella of the Hilton Head Institute..  There are currently 8 resident artists, 2 students, and 3 artists on consignment.  The Gala will help them raise money for needed equipment like a CNC machine which is a laser engraver.
