President Tim Ridge called the meeting to order at 8:10. Thom Hill offered a blessing followed by the pledge of allegiance.
 
Sergeant-at-arms Jennifer DeHart introduced visiting Rotarians and guests, collected Happy Buck$, and turned her Rotary Spotlight on member Ken Meyer. Ken hails from Chappaqua, NY where he was a human resource officer. He has been a Rotarian for about six months and looks forward to active participation in VanLandingham Rotary projects and events.

Nancy Riedel reminded all to consider attending the District Conference in March (24-26) to be held at the Marriott Resort Hotel in Palmetto Dunes. Come, learn, socialize.
 
Maxine Parsons-Kogut is hoping for a good turnout at the annual Rotary ROCS event this coming Saturday. Sign up sheets were circulated and members have several venues to choose from. These include:

John Farrenkopf introduced our speaker, David Erdman (below)
 
Dave works with the Hilton Head Island Community Rowing and Sailing Center. Along with the Island Recreation Association they operate the rowing and sailing center on Squire Pope Road. Rowing has been and is an important part of Dave's existence having been a competitive rower in high school and the Cornell University Lightweight crew for four years. He graduated from Cornell with a BS in mechanical engineering and went on to work for DuPont in its Teflon Area.
 
Dave resumed his rowing career in 1994 with the New Haven Rowing Club and rowed in a series of Master's Nationals starting in 2000. He began coaching the Hilton head High School Crew in 2008 and has become a U.S. Rowing Association Certified Level 2 Rowing Coach in the process. His presentation including rowing facts, figures and photos and was very informative.
